The Four Graces by Ilana Miller

Ilana Miller's introspective and well-researched The Four Graces is Majesty Magazine's book of the month.  Yes, the book is a bit pricey ($43.00), but it is worth the investment.  This the story of the four daughters of Princess Alice and Grand Duke Louis IV of Hesse and By Rhine:  Victoria, Elisabeth, Irene and Alix, as seen through the eyes of the eldest child, Princess Victoria.

(the original review)

I cannot stress enough that this is one of the best new royal books published in a VERY LONG TIME!  It has it all - romance, pathos, emotion, history, love, desire, passion as the lives of these very interesting princesses emerge from the quiet of the very small Grand Duchy to moving toward the international stage.

These four women lived very different lives, yet remained loving, caring sisters.

This book is the perfect companion to David Duff's Hessian Tapestry and Richard Hough's  Louis & Victoria: the First Mountbattens.

Borders - RIP

I was delighted when my local Borders in Springfield, Virginia, survived the original cut when Border's went into bankruptcy earlier this year.  I get up at 8 a.m., on Saturday mornings, and head to my Zumba class.  After I get home, shower and change, I head to Border's.  Every Saturday, rain or shine, I drive the five minutes to the bookstore -- except for vacations and the rare blizzard -- to browse.  Check the new books.  Look at the magazines.  Border's is the last place in this area where I can get Bunte, but the store stopped stocking Point de Vue, Hola and Hello after the bankruptcy announcement.

Every Saturday, a large vanilla latte, extra vanilla, skim milk.  Light ice in the summer.   I am a Border's Rewards Plus member, so I get extra bennies.  Last Saturday, I bought the new People magazine (Duchess of Cambridge on the cover) and Kate Morton's third book.

I plan to be there every Saturday morning until the store closes in September.  I do not know what I will do after the store closes for good!  Where will I get my vanilla latte?  Where will I browse even a small section of foreign magazines?

This sucks ... big time.

The Wedding of the Earl and Countess of Harewood

The Wedding of the Earl and Countess of Harewood is is 32 page Pitkin Pictorial was published shortly after the marriage at St. Mark's Church, North Audley Street, London on September 29, 1949.  The text was written by Rhona Churchill.

This small book includes photographs of the couple - from childhood through adulthood, engagement and the wedding.

The late Earl of Harewood, who died earlier today at Harewood House in Leeds, wrote his memoirs, Tongs and Bones.    The book is long out of print.   Lord Harewood wrote of his childhood, his marriages, his love for Patricia and for the opera  ...

William & Kate The Royal Wedding

The Associated Press, the largest news gathering organization in the world, has jumped on the royal wedding books bandwagon, with a stunning publication:  William & Kate: The Royal Wedding.  A team of 21 AP photographers were assigned to cover the royal wedding.  These photographs were seen all over the world in newspapers, magazines and on the Internet.

The AP made arrangements with My Publisher to publish two editions: the Classic Hardcover and the Deluxe Hardcover.

The Classic Hardcover ($60.00) features "high quality 115-pound glossy archival-quality paper" and a removable book jacket.  The size of the book is "11.25 W x 8.75" H.    The Deluxe volume is a bit larger (15" W x 11.5" H).  This edition was published on 182-pound glossy archival-quality paper, which a removal book jacket.  The price is $120.00.

My favorite photo is one taken by Alastair Grant, a close  up of the veiled Miss Middleton about to enter the Abbey and waving to the crowd.

This book can be ordered only through the publisher.  It is not for sale in any bookstore or through Amazon.

William & Kate: The Royal Wedding is absolutely gorgeous, a truly professional book that celebrates  the wedding in full color.   This is a book you will want to put on your coffee table so all your guests can browse through it - and enjoy it as much as you do.

This is a definite must have!

The Royal Wedding The Official Westminster Abbey Souvenir

This 40 page soft cover book (reminiscent of the older larger size Pitkin Pictorials) focuses on the royal wedding, the details and the ceremony seen by nearly a billion people around the world.   The text was written by James Wilkinson, who has written many Abbey publications.

The book also includes a chapter on earlier royal weddings at Westminster Abbey (omitting Princess Patricia of Connaught's wedding in 1919) from the Duke of York's marriage to Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon in 1923 to their grandson, Andrew's marriage to Sarah Ferguson in 1986.

This is a glossy paper publication complemented by a nice selection of color photographs.   The Royal Wedding The Official Westminster Abbey Souvenir is available on both sides of the Atlantic ($8.00/

This is one of the 'must have' royal wedding books because the detailed description of the wedding ceremony.
